Foals, the 5-piece from Oxford, are releasing a 3rd single off the brilliant album "Total Life Forever". This being "Spanish Sahara". This was the 1st teaser song to be leaked off the album back in January, so it is already fairly well-known.
The main reason i decided to blog about this track though is because it is being released in two bundles, one full of various remixes and one full of live versions, and a version done with additional strings. The additional strings were added to the track by the London Contemporary Orchestra, and in my view, it makes the track so much better, it adds another dimension to the song, creating this real dreamy effect. I can picture it with highlights of a great football game, and in my view, that is class.
There is one big downfall to this song. The original version is around 6 minutes and 50 seconds long, but this version only lasts around 3 minutes 50. Why? I really can't understand this. The long period of time on the original version allows the song to really build up to a climax point, and this would be just amazing on the additional strings version, but they have chosen to shorten it. I can't see the reasoning behind it. But all in all it still is a wonderful track by one of my favourite bands. Below is the song, see what you think of it...
